Support your Immune System with Nutritional Supplements

“Every severe and chronic disease is directly associated with immune dysfunction.”
Dr. Yulius Poplyansky,
Director ofthe International Foundation of Innovative Medicine

Today, supporting your immune system is as essential to well-being as a healthy diet, exercise and restful sleep. Unfortunately, there is a steady increase in the incidence of severe and chronic diseases in North America. Many people are suffering from….

Immune System Challenges:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Arthritis and Rheumatism
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Chronic Candida (yeast)
  • Hepatitis C
  • Recurrent Colds and Flu
  • Sinusitis
  • Lupus
  • MS

Major Health Issues of North American Society:

  • 1.2 million new cases of Cancer this year
  • 15 million have Asthma with 6,000 deaths per year
  • 2 million suffer from Emphysema in the US
  • 2 million suffer from hospital caused infection with 90,000 deaths per year
  • 4.1 million cases of Alzheimer’s
  • 140,000 new cases of BPH (enlarged prostate) annually

Main Reasons for an Compromised Immune System:

  • Poor Nutrition
  • Infection
  • Toxins
  • Trauma
  • Stress

Dietary Patterns of North Americans

  • Consistently fail to meet current dietary guidelines for recommended intakes for vitamins and minerals1
  • Less than 1% of 8000 adults consume diets that meet the “five food group” recommendations2
  • 80% of women and 70% of men consume less than 2/3 of RDA for one or more nutrients3

The Value of Multivitamins in Immune Health:

In a landmark article published June 19, 2002, The Journal of The American Medical Association (JAMA) announced that all adults should take vitamin supplements to help prevent chronic diseases. Additionally, many studies on the use of multivitamins have demonstrated the value of taking a multivitamin daily, including:

  • Reducing the number of days of illness due to infection in elderly patients by half 5
  • Decreasing risk of coronary disease1, colon cancer2 3 and breast cancer 4

Studies have also shown that billions of dollars in health costs could be saved through the daily use of dietary supplements.

Examples of Nutritional Fuels in Immune Health:

Vitamin E

  • Fat-soluble antioxidant
  • Helps to maintain healthy T-cell function
  • Selenium
  • Enhances production of certain interleukins and interferons
  • Antioxidant
  • Vitamin B6
  • Important for healthy lymphocyte response

Vitamin A

  • Maintains T-lymphocyte function

Zinc

  • Helps to maintain antioxidant activity
  • Maintains cell-mediated immunity and host-defense system

Vitamin C

  • Anti-viral and Anti-bacterial activities
  • Improves host resistance to disease
  • Increases interferon levels

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)

  • Influence cytokine and eicosanoid production
  • Important for immune regulation
  • Help regulate some functions of T-cell mediated immunity and autoimmunity (especially omega-3 fats)

Effective Herbal Fuels for Immune Health:

  • Arabinogalactan – Provides complex polysaccharides, which help stimulate the activity of some of the most powerful types of immune cells.
  • Astragalus - Traditionally used for a variety of health conditions such as low resistance, lack of vitality and the effects of stress, medical journals suggest this herb may stimulate the immune system and improve the body’s natural defenses.*
  • Maitake mushroom – Prized in Asia for centuries, Maitake contains TD-fraction, a complex of protein-bound ploysaccharides that stimulate a variety of immune functions; Maitake is also rich in grifolan, an important beta-glucan polysaccharide that’s been shown to activate macrophages, which are considered the “heavy duty” cells of the immune system.*
  • Echinacea – stimulates the macrophage cells in the immune system, which in turn stimulate other parts of the immune system. Best used short term (2-6 weeks on, 1 week off)

Immune Modulator

  • Ai/E10 whey extract – Studies show this extract sports natural killer (NK) cell function, which is important in maintaining a strong immune system.* In her book Immune System Solutions.M.K.McCurdy says “The Ai/E10 ingredient . . . . . may be the most sophisticated ingredient in the entire field of immune products of all types.”
